I have it on my schedule to write a mission statement for Language & Login. Mission statements can prove difficult to write and frequently turn into what I referred to in part as platitudes on plaster (alluding to the plaster walls on which those statements hang.)
Frequently, mission statements tend to over-generalize. At other times, they amount to feel-good statements meant to avoid hurting people's feelings. In business, you cannot make everyone happy. Businesses should strive to provide products that their customers value. Those who do not want or need the product can shop elsewhere.
I think this starts with profiling the customers of the business. I would like to use the Dunning-Kruger effect as a model. Tomorrow, I will describe my Reader Profile.
Purpose
This newsletter exists to fight ignorance through the understanding of first principles.
"The more you know, the more you realize you don't know." These words have been attributed to Aristotle. Whether Aristotle deserves that attribution, the statement holds true.
I want to reduce ignorance (mine and my readers’) by exploring "first principles" that will offer a way to examine our current understanding and expose many things we don't know.
Mission
The mission of this newsletter consists of helping knowledgeable people gain new knowledge and understanding of topics related to the subject of free markets.
Markets play a vital role in everyone's life, yet ignorance about them abounds.
